laxogenin Laxogenin or 5α-Hydroxy-Laxogenin is a steroidal saponin (a plant-derived steroid such as guggulsterones) about which little is known. Laxogenin was shaken off in 1996 and has since been said to have the same androgenic / anabolic ratio as anavar (oxandrolone), but without the potential side effects and risk of being positive for anti-doping tests. It is presented in the form of a plant-based dietary supplement that can reduce the percentage of body fat by stimulating metabolism and the development of muscle tone. The scant evidence regarding the putative efficacy of Laxogenin indicates an increase in strength after 3-5 days and an increase in muscle mass after 3-4 weeks. This compound is said to have an autonomous anabolic effect equal to that of ecdysterone. Tests show that protein synthesis is increased by over 200%. These tests also indicate that 5α-hydroxy-laxogenin has the ability to balance the cortisol response.

diosgenina Laxogenin has shown fairly profound anti-inflammatory effects. In addition, it can be synthesized from diosgenin, used to make corticosteroids, sex hormones and oral contraceptives. Laxogenin is a steroidal saponin isolated from Smilax Sieboldi. As a spirostanic analogue of the brassinosteroid testerone, Laxogenin is known for its ability to stimulate growth (in plants). Laxogenin has been shown to have antitumor activity in a two-stage experiment on lung carcinogenesis.
The best (published) study can be found in Phytochemistry 1971, vol. 10, pp. 1339-1346. Also in 1989 the same newspaper vol. 28, no. 9, pp. 2509-2511 (laxogenin acetate). There is a link in Chem dating from 1965. Pharm. Bul. 13 (5), p. 545-550 (Laxogenin).

This was the publication that appeared in the Syrov newspaper in 1976, which aroused the greatest interest. The document is entitled “Experimental Study of the Anabolic Activity of 6-Keto Derivatives of Certain Natural Sapogenins.” It details the 4 sapogenins (so called compounds 1-4 in the Soviet Union) and the starting material, the results of the classic steroid model, and other information required for their use. Most of these compounds can be obtained from diosgenin. The main problem with this supplement is the lack of sufficient scientific research related to the molecule. Therefore, there is a good chance that with the addition of Laxogenin you will not lose weight or increase muscle mass or strength.

  • Several analyzes of Laxogenin supplements on the market have shown that there is no molecule in the supplement.


After analyzing the compound, it becomes clear that Laxogenin does not have sufficient research to justify its use to improve performance. There is very little information regarding the benefits of 5a-hydroxy-laxogenin for humans. For my part, I have a lot of doubts about its real effectiveness, since it remains basically a steroidal plant saponin without structural changes. My doubts are related to the fact that phytosterol itself does not have any effect on human tissues, that is, it cannot be converted by the human body into biologically active molecules. Some, on the other hand, argue that its action is similar to that of other better known saponins such as protodioscin, namely that Laxogenin stimulates the secretion of LH and FSH.
However, if the manufacturers claim that Laxogenin supplementation is safe and effective, without scientific evidence, I would personally recommend that you proceed with caution. But if you really want to try it, you can stick it in the PCT or separately at a dosage of 100-150 mg / day, divided into 2-3 doses. At the most, you will find that you have thrown away fifty euros, which is already a lot for this time.
